World Record Holder and fishing Guru visits Betty’s Camp Posted October 15, 2013
Recently we could welcome a very prominent fisherman at the guesthouse: Hansruedi Hebeisen (“HRH”), a Swiss living most of the time in Ireland. Hansruedi was a world champion in casting and is owner of one of the biggest fishing academies in Europe. Together with his lovely wife Heidi they were on a scouting trip in order to add to their annual program an African adventure: In December 2014 they will return with interested participants for saltwater fly and big game fishing. (Please contact us when interested to learn more about the December 2014 program with HRH.)
Hansruedi is not only an absolute pro in fly fishing – he has also published a series of well renowned cook books. Our Chef John was delighted and was writing down many new tricks. E.g. for a delicious Risotto and obviously for the red snappers we caught on fly or the Wahoos crossing our way while cruising on the big game boat.

Squid Hunting at our Waterfront Posted October 1, 2013
Fishing with Hamisi from Sea Adventures Ltd. on Kamara II is always an experience. We all know that. However, in October we discovered just an additional facet of his impressive skill set: Having him as a guest on our new Jetty for the afternoon tea, he just spotted a huge squid hunting. Without a word – his hunter spirit urged him to roll up his trousers and to climb down in the shallow water. What followed was spectacular: Cautious steps, guiding the hunting squid towards a mangrove bush and … a sudden explosion and Hamisi hold a huge squid in his hands. No need to say that our new cook and sea food specialist John was delighted too.
Capt Hashim launching our new light tackle boat Posted September 30, 2013
This month Peter and Hashim were testing our new light tackle boat. (Samller sister boat to MANGROVE SNEAKER). With the 60 HP engine the small boat is fast and can reach schools of small tunas in very short reaction time. They also made some good tests with fly rods along the mangroves as well as on white snappers within Funzi Bay.
We are all keen to see what happens during Tarpon season!
Long lasts what ends well – Jetty is taking shape Posted March 30, 2013
After a couple of years – all approval procedures have been terminated successfully and the construction for accessing the sea directly from the Camp is progressing fast.
It was important to us that no mangrove tree is getting damaged. Therefore we kept the specific construction level high and the new Jetty might even serve our guest as a mangrove walk or to observe the various species of fish living and feeding covered by the mangrove trees.

Light Tackle Fishing with Capt, Hashim Posted January 25, 2013
Today Peter and my niece Rachel went out with the alu dinghy – steered by Hashim. In the Pemba Channel they met with Bonitos (small tuna) . So they could not only test our new 15 HP outboard engine but they also came back with the essentials for a decent Sushimi Dinner.
10 Years after – full scale Renovation Posted December 15, 2012
Throughout 2012 we have made a major renovation. Opened 10 years ago – we have now upgraded three Rooms with AC, a new lounge on 1st floor as well as new roofing, pathways in the garden and an all new reception. The renovation will be completed during Q1 2013 with a Jetty that will allow direct access to the sea.
